Anyone who knows me well knows how much I absolutely love, love, LOVE Sade. She is my favourite artist by a long shot. I adore her music! I have mentioned before that if I ever have a daughter, her name will be Sade (future hubs, if you’re reading this, that is not negotiable!) Her full name is Helen Folasade Adu, born 16 January 1959 to a Nigerian father and a British mother. The name Sade is short for her middle name Folasade which means “honour confers a crown” in Yoruba.

My love for Sade started when I was very young.  I used to spend a lot of time at my grandmother’s house when I was in nursery and junior school. My uncles were not yet married and they all lived at my gran’s. They played a lot of different music including Sade, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Roxette, Phil Collins etc. My dad also used to play a lot of great music for me, Sade included. I remember listening to songs off Diamond Life and loving her sensual, smooth, soothing voice. I have never wanted to go and watch any concert the way I would love to go to a Sade concert. I don’t care if it is halfway across the world, I WILL BE THERE. She’s 59 now so I don’t know if she still wants to do anymore shows (fingers crossed).

Besides her music, I like Sade for her personality, probably because I see one or two traits I have in her. I obviously don’t know her like that so when I say her personality, I mean what we, her fans, perceive her to be like. Like me, she is notoriously private and strives to stay away from the spotlight. She also seems to be a very down to earth and grounded woman. It seems she hasn’t let fame mess with her head. Oh, and speaking of heads, she’s also #TeamFiveHead!

I probably love every single one of her songs from all her albums. But today being #WomanCrushWednesday, I will share with you my top ten favourite Sade songs only. Trust me, it’s a task and a half to try to choose just ten! If you’re not a Sade fan yet, I hope after listening to the following songs, you will be a new convert!

Sade throughout the years

There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly led me to you
Look at the sky
It’s the color of love

There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly came down from above
He led me to you!
He led me to you!

“I’m a soldier of love
Every day and night
I’m a soldier of love
All the days of my life”

Ahhh man! I really had fun making this post. This is what I call music. It has meaning, you know? Music that actually speaks to you. Are there any other Sade fans out there? What are your favourite Sade songs and why?
