Guys. I’m really not going to say much. If you have never listened to any South African House music, then I honestly don’t know which rock you have been living under. Like, I truly don’t know! But, fear not! I am here to shine some light on your dark, dark world!

The other day I was listening to some Prince Kaybee and my workmate came up to my desk. Looking very thoughtful he said “You know what? I think SA House music has some spiritual element to it because it just takes you to another place. Inoita kukupinda so!” (Loose translation: It feels like the music is entering and taking over your body”.) I nodded in agreement. There is NO WAY you can listen to South African House Music and not find yourself involuntarily dancing. There is just no way!

Without further ado, let’s jump right to it. Today, I have twenty songs for you because, hello, this is South African House Music. It would be preposterous for me to stick to my usual list of ten. (I know ya’ll are going to be TIRED from all the dancing by the time you finish going through this post. I do not apologise for that 😜😜)

Enjoy!

Prince Kaybee – Banomoya

Prince Kaybee just needs to let us breathe please. This guy keeps belting out hit after hit and by the time this post is published, he would have released another song. There can be no ke Dezembaring without several of his songs. Banomoya is one of my favourites. In fact, the first 5 songs of this list are his. Don’t break a leg now!

Prince Kaybee – Club Controller

I haven’t set foot in a club in ages but I can guarantee you, this song probably still does control the clubs!

Prince Kaybee – Gugulethu

This song makes me want to actually visit Gugulethu 😁😁

Prince Kaybee – Charlotte

Can all the “Charlottes” please go away? 🀭🀭

Prince Kaybee – Better Days

I think this was one of Kaybee’s songs that got me hooked on his music. πŸ™πŸΎ

Da Capo ft Bertia – Found You

I love love this song! Berita is just so gorgeous. I love seeing Zimbabweans so successful in their chosen field!

Professor – Jezebel

Woooohoo! This song! Haha! Brings back memories man! Some friends and I used to go crazy whenever it was played!

Professor – Lento

Something is wrong with you if this song plays and you don’t stand up and dance. Even if you have two left feet, you will still be moving about!

Mafikizolo – Khona

Mafikizolo used to be one of my favourite groups, especially before they lost their third member. I’m still a fan though and I like how colourful this video is.

Black Motion ft Miss P – It’s You

I really wish this song had a video to go with it. Nevertheless, it still remains a favourite.

Mizz & Rabs – Count Your Blessings

Listen and enjoy. That is all.

Mobi Dixon ft M.Que – City Rains

Love LOVE this song! πŸ’–πŸ’•

Monique Bingham, Black Coffee – Deep In The Bottom

If ever there was an underrated musician, Monique is her.

Monique Bingham, Ralf Gum – Take Me To My Love

Another Monique favourite. “…Let me at that man I want to make sure I keep him close as I can”. 😜

DJ Kent ft The Arrows – Spin My World Around

Bucie & Black Coffee – Superman

If you’ve never seen this music video but you’re wondering where you’ve heard something very similar, it’s because you have. The song Get It Together is on Drake’s More Life album and it is a reworked version of producer Black Coffee’s 2008 piano-house track Superman. The vocals are done by Drake and Jorja Smith.

Personally though, I MUCH prefer the original version with Bucie. Drake’s version lacks what we call “that ka thing”.

Heavy K ft Mpumi

Another one where you’re just going to find yourself moving involuntarily πŸ’ƒπŸΎπŸ’ƒπŸΎ

Culoe De Song – No Contest

You really cannot talk about South African House Music without mentioning Culoe. You just can’t. Ce n’est pas possible!

Mi Casa – La Vida

Again. You can’t go on about SA House without talking about Mi Casa. Love these guys!

DJ Ganyani ft FB – Xigubu

This is an oldie (I mean, she singing about her BBM πŸ˜…), but a goodie!

Bucie – Get Over It

One of my favourite female South African artists. I wish she was making more music though.

Sun-El Musician – Sonini

The great thing about music is that you really don’t have to know what the lyrics mean in order to like a song. As long as your heart responds, you’re good. Most of these songs make me want to learn Zulu though, so I can fully appreciate what is being said.

Let me stop here or else this list is really going to be 50 songs long (not that you’re complaining I know😁).

As always, it’s has been loads of fun making this post. I know you loved it too and hopefully I’ve made a few converts. Those of you who are regular house-heads, which are your faves? Let me know below. Until next time, ciao!
